Back Stiffening
The Electronic Back Stiffener is applied to beef carcasses to induce a contraction in the back muscles during downward hide pulling.The force of the pull over the shoulders, poll and head; combined with the weight of the carcass, can cause breaking or separation of the spinal vertebrae.
The application of a Back Stiffening current in the mid lumbar region results in a localized contraction of the back muscles giving support to the spinal vertebrae and reducing the incidence of spinal breakages and degree of vertebral separation.
StimTech’s back stiffener utilises a low duty cycle, controlled current waveform which achieves stiffening of the back while minimising the effect of carcass pH relative to temperature.The simple activation enables the StimTech back stiffener to be retrofitted to existing hide pullers.
